Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced the datesheet of supplementary examinations of students of class X and XII. The notice, published on June 27, 2025, provides an opportunity to those students who failed in one or two subjects in their board exams or want to secure higher marks another chance to establish their academic excellence. The examinations will begin from mid-July.
As per the notice posted on the official website of the CBSE (http://cbse.gov.in/), re-exams for class X will be held over the course of seven days from July 15 to July 22, 2025. Comparatively, supplementary re-exams for class XII will be held and completed in one day—July 15—is indicative of a remarkable consolidation of the board’s policy of re-exams at the senior secondary level.
The announcement comes barely weeks after the board declared the outcome of class X and XII board exams 2025 on May 13. Preparing for the next exams, CBSE has emphasized caution in keeping to the calendar and rules of the exam to assist in ensuring things go on smoothly at all examination centers.
For Class X students, the supporting exams will commence on July 15 with those subjects from the subject of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence. The remaining examinations will be held sequentially over the course of the week, including other academic and vocational subjects. In a forthright bid to simplify the process, the CBSE has combined all class XII subjects in one examination day—July 15—whereby students can take their respective subjects on the same day without the need to opt for multiple sittings of tests.
Students appearing for the supplementary exams of class XII will be attempting core academic subjects like English Elective, Hindi Elective, Urdu Elective, and Sanskrit Elective. The schedule also mentions key social science subjects like History, Political Science, Geography, and Economics. Science and mathematics students will be writing subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Biotechnology, and Engineering Graphics—all on one day, July 15.
Along with the common scholastic courses, the re-examination time table of class XII will also include a plethora of vocational and optional courses. They include Accountancy, Business Studies, Informatics Practices, Computer Science, and Home Science. Regional and international languages like Punjabi, Bengali, Manipuri, Malayalam, French, and Nepali are also included in the time table so that students belonging to different linguistic groups may be encompassed by the re-exams.
Vocation and applied streams are also well covered in the supplementary schedule, an indication of the open-mindedness of the board towards modern education. The students studying vocation-based subjects such as Retail, Web Application, Information Technology, Automotive, Financial Market Management, Tourism, Beauty and Wellness, and Agriculture will be able to reappear for exams as well.
When it comes to the timings, the CBSE has already stated that exams for X and XII will start at 10:30 AM. The exams will also differ in duration from paper to paper. While a few of the papers will conclude by 12:30 PM, the remaining will be till 1:30 PM. The duration of each paper has been specified in the datesheet and will be highlighted in bold on the students’ admit cards. For improved preparation and reassurance, 15 minutes extra time will be provided to students at the start of every test to look at the question paper.
CBSE has also come up with a stern guideline on what is expected of the students in the exam halls. The use or taking of communication devices such as mobile phones and smartwatches is not permitted. Violation of this directive will attract stern disciplinary action. Besides, the students are also encouraged to be disciplined and observant during the examination period. The board has reiterated that all the instructions should be heeded appropriately to prevent any kind of hassles that might impact a student’s performance.
Looking at the back-up exams as a highly critical chance for recovery academically, CBSE’s uniform and careful strategy is to enable students to recover academically with absolutely no unnecessary delay. The one-day duration of class XII exams, although intensive, is meant to minimize logistical burden and confer early results, most critically for students seeking college admissions and career guidance.
Students and parents are requested to keep visiting the official CBSE website for updates and downloading datesheet and admit card well in advance. With proper preparation and compliance with rules, re-exams provide students with a second opportunity to do better and pursue their studies.
