The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has finally extended Class XI admission via its Online Facilitation System for Students (OFSS) for the 2025-2027 session. This is a respite for thousands of students in the state, who were battling an uphill game to ensure that their admission was confirmed on time. According to latest reports, the new deadline for approval of admissions has been set to July 3, 2025, and schools and colleges have been instructed to upload admission details of students on the OFSS portal by July 4, 2025.
The first merit list for admission in OFSS was published on June 4, 2025, and the students were originally provided time until June 10 to finalize their reserved seats. But after some appeals and due to technical issues that have affected both students and institutes, BSEB had initially extended this date up to June 28. And now, through this recent notification, the board has provided a final extension, and the last date to confirm seats is July 3.
As per the official BSEB message, the extension has been done in order to assist those students who, due to reasons like document delays, technical snags, or vagueness in the admission process, were unable to make their admissions during the earlier window. The board explained that this would be the last chance for the students to make their admissions in the first merit list. Such candidates who do not fill in their seat by this date will lose their allocated seat, and the seat will be announced vacant and offered to other candidates in the subsequent merit list.
Apart from this, the board has also instructed specifically all notified intermediate institutions’ principals and admission officers to provide the day-wise admission figures in the OFSS portal. Particularly, the admission details uploaded between June 29 and July 3 should be uploaded the following day. The window for uploading all admission particulars on the OFSS portal is July 4, 2025. Any aberration or delay in uploading accurate data within this period could impact the seat matrix for second-round admissions.
Vacant seats were also discussed by the BSEB. After the July 3 deadline, the entire available or unconfirmed seats will be declared vacant and shall automatically fall vacant for utilization in the second merit list. This would definitely help first-time applicants who either were not allocated a seat in the first round or were not able to apply earlier because of some unexpected cause. These applicants will have an opportunity to apply fresh option forms and participate in subsequent selection rounds.
The board, in its notice, explained, “The head or admission officers of all institutions are instructed to update the admission details of all those students who have been admitted by 4th July 2025 as this is the closing date of admission for the first selection list. The available seats left after that date will be allotted to other students under the second selection list.”
The second merit list will be published shortly after the conclusion of the first admission round. The students who do not succeed in the first list or desire to change their preferences will be provided with a chance to do so prior to the release of the second list.
This last window is particularly vital for such students who are hailing from distant regions or were forced to deal with last-minute issues like improper document uploads, delayed verification, or denial of timely help. By providing a longer deadline, the BSEB ensures that a clear and fair admission process is provided, leaving behind no deserving student on procedural merits.
Parents and students have been asked to keep a close eye on the OFSS portal and see that all the processes—admission confirmation, fee payment (if any), and document verification—are done way before the deadline of July 3. Institutions, too, have been asked to collaborate completely with the board directives so that no technical or administrative hitch is encountered while making uploading of data feasible.
By providing this extended timeline, BSEB has acting in advance to expand the scope and simplify the process of intermediate admission. Students are cautioned, however, that this is the last opportunity by way of the first merit list and that any delay subsequently will jeopardize the possibility of admission for them under the current round. When this is done, the board will proceed with the second seat allotment process, and this will be conducted as per the vacant seats available.
Students and institutions are requested to keep refreshing the official OFSS Bihar portal for all updates and clear instructions.
