Share

The 38th edition of the Surajkund International Crafts Fair, held in Faridabad near Delhi, witnessed an overwhelming crowd on Sunday. In just ten days, the fair has attracted 11.70 lakh visitors, nearing last year’s record of 13 lakh, with the event continuing until February 23.

Heritage and Tourism Minister Dr. Arvind Sharma stated that 2 lakh visitors attended on Sunday alone. The cultural venues, including Main Chaupal, Mini Chaupal, Natya Shala, and various pavilions, were bustling with activity. He expressed confidence that the fair would break previous attendance records in the coming days.

Dr. Sharma credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of strengthening national unity, art, and culture, which is being realized under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s leadership through this grand fair. Technological advancements and innovative changes have contributed to the fair’s success, despite challenges like changing weather, student exams, and other factors.

He highlighted that the online ticketing system has made access easier for visitors, while online stall allocation for artisans and weavers has increased transparency and participation. This has provided visitors with a diverse range of crafts and products.

This year, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh are the theme states, drawing significant interest. The BIMSTEC partner countries—India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Myanmar—have also seen a heavy footfall at their stalls. Over 50 international artists are performing on the Main Chaupal, while the Mini Chaupal showcases regional cultural acts.

Dr. Sharma further noted that big-name performers on the mega stage have added to the fair’s appeal. With seven more days to go, organizers are making every effort to attract more visitors. Officials, including Principal Secretary Kala Ramachandran, Haryana Tourism Corporation MD Dr. Sunil Kumar, and teams from Information, Public Relations, and Cultural Departments, are working tirelessly to ensure a seamless experience for tourists.
