Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has further postponed the last date of registration for Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design (UCEED) 2025 counselling procedure. The applicants interested in enrolling for Bachelor of Design (BDes) programme at the participating IITs can register until April 3, 2025, at 5:30 PM through the official UCEED portal, uceed.iitb.ac.in. This extension follows the initial deadline of March 31, 2025, giving the candidates some extra time to make their applications.
The UCEED 2025 counselling is available only to the candidates who have passed the UCEED exam, the announcement of which was made on March 7, 2025. The participation in the counselling is made on the basis of the date of birth of the candidate. For the Open, Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) categories, they should have been born after October 1, 2000. For the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories, the age limit is October 1, 1995. These requirements make sure that only qualified individuals who fit the age criteria can join the counselling process.
To complete the registration, candidates must pay a non-refundable registration fee of Rs 4,000. This fee is mandatory for all applicants to successfully register for the counselling process. The counselling itself will involve multiple rounds of seat allotment, with a total of five rounds scheduled to take place. The seat allotment process will conclude once all available seats across the participating institutions are filled. This will offer a chance for candidates to get a seat in the extremely competitive BDes programmes at IITs and IIITDM Jabalpur.
The allotment of seats will be done considering several factors, such as the candidate’s All India Rank (AIR) in the UCEED 2025 examination, category, and chosen institute and course preferences. After the seat allotment is completed, the shortlisted candidates will be sent a provisional allotment letter through their registered email. To secure their seat, candidates have to pay a seat acceptance fee, which is different for different categories. For General, EWS, and OBC-NCL candidates, the seat acceptance fee is Rs 60,000. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the fee is lowered to Rs 15,000. This amount has to be paid online on the portal in order to finish the process.
The UCEED 2025 counselling process will give the candidates an opportunity to get one of the 245 seats offered in the participating institutes. The seat matrix shows the number of seats offered in each category in each institute. IIT Bombay provides a total of 37 seats, and 14 seats under the Open category, 4 under EWS, 9 under OBC-NCL, 5 under SC, and 3 under ST. IIT Delhi provides 20 seats, including 8 under Open, 2 under EWS, 5 under OBC-NCL, 3 under SC, and 1 under ST. IIT Guwahati provides the maximum number of seats, with a total of 56, placed under different categories. Some of the other institutes participating in this process are IIT Hyderabad (30 seats), IIT Roorkee (20 seats), IIITDM Jabalpur (66 seats), and IIT Indore (16 seats). There are a total of 245 seats for candidates who are eligible and successfully complete the seat allotment process.
The counselling process is a significant phase for prospective design students who have cleared the UCEED exam and are interested in studying design at some of the nation’s best institutions. The relaxation of the deadline for registration provides applicants with extra time to finish filling out their applications, thereby providing candidates interested in becoming designers with a chance to do so. It is essential that candidates remember the new deadline of April 3, 2025, and do their registrations ahead of time so as not to miss this opportunity.
Since the counselling procedure will span five rounds, it is presumed that candidates shall get several opportunities to get admitted to a seat according to their preferences and ranking. With allotment of the seat depending upon AIR, category, and preference of the institutes, it becomes essential for the candidates to be updated with recent developments and take all the procedures on time.
In summary, the extended counselling deadline gives applicants a second chance to apply for UCEED 2025 counselling and get a seat in the BDes programme at participating IITs and IIITDM Jabalpur. With seven institutes offering a total of 245 seats, the counselling session will be crucial in determining the future of budding design students in India.
