The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE) has officially announced the TN National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Examination 2025 results. The results were announced on April 12, 2025, and are now live on the official DGE portal — dge.tn.gov.in. This is a milestone moment for thousands of Class 8 students who had appeared for the scholarship exam held a few months ago.
The TN NMMS exam was conducted on February 22, 2025, and is aimed at providing financial support to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections for their higher secondary and secondary education. Under the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme implemented by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the exam is intended to decrease dropout rates and ensure academic continuity among deserving students.
Candidates who took the exam can now check their results by logging on to the DGE Tamil Nadu website. The result sheet includes detailed information like the roll number of the candidate, full name, parents’ names, school name, district, and category. It also includes the marks scored in the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and the Scholastic Ability Test (SAT), the total score, and the rank of the student. These pieces of information are very vital in ascertaining the qualification for the scholarship and subsequent academic recommendations.
For students to confirm their results, they have to go to the homepage of the official site and select the “Results” icon. From there, they need to click on the appropriate result link that reads “NMMS EXAMINATION – Results Feb-2025.” After inputting their ten-digit roll number and date of birth, candidates can view and download their respective results. It is recommended that students keep a copy of the result handy for future purposes, particularly scholarship verification and school documentation procedures.
Eligibility for the NMMS scholarship is based on two key factors — achieving the minimum qualifying marks and meeting or exceeding the NMMS cut-off score. For students in the general category, the minimum required score is 40% in both MAT and SAT sections. For students belonging to reserved categories, such as SC, ST, and OBC, the qualifying mark is slightly lower at 32% for each of the two papers. But fulfilling these percentages alone will not ensure selection to the scholarship. The merit list is drawn up based on the highest mark obtained by candidates, and a total of 6,695 scholarships are to be distributed across the state. Therefore, the cut-off score is fixed based on the marks scored by the last student in this merit list.
The NMMS test assesses candidates on two important areas — mental ability and scholastic aptitude. The MAT component evaluates reasoning, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities, whereas the SAT evaluates a student’s knowledge in areas such as science, mathematics, and social studies. The test is important in identifying academically talented students from poor backgrounds and aiding their education with a monthly scholarship grant. Scholarship recipients are given Rs. 1,000 per month from Class 9 through Class 12, as long as they maintain academic and attendance standards.
This year’s declaration of the NMMS results has brought relief and excitement for the students and their families. For most, it is one step closer to fulfilling their academic aspirations without the weight of financial burdens. The scholarship not only provides financial assistance but also serves as an inspiration, pushing students to reach higher and do better in their studies.
The TN NMMS Result 2025 announcement is a vital update for all stakeholders – students, parents, teachers, and school officials – since it makes students eligible for one of the nation’s most prized school-level scholarships. Now that results are available online, students are encouraged to check their marks immediately, cross-check all information, and prepare for the next phase of their studies. For additional information or inquiries, applicants may follow the instructions from the DGE Tamil Nadu portal or reach their respective schools.
