West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) declared the results for the Class XII Uchch Madhyamik examinations 2025 officially on May 7. The results, which have been eagerly awaited, were made available on the website from 2 pm. Students who have appeared for the exams can now view their mark sheets online. This year’s exam, conducted from March 3 to March 18, witnessed the participation of more than eight lakh students across the state, with a large number of regular students making their presence felt with high turnout.

Out of the 4,82,946 regular candidates who registered for the exam, an impressive 4,73,919 took part, thereby registering a turnout of more than 98%. Such high turnout indicates the interest and dedication of students towards their studies in the state.

Headlining this year’s merit list is Burdwan CMS High School student Rupayan Pal, who achieved a record 497 marks out of a possible 500, or a total percentage of 99.4%. On the second position is Bakshirhat High School student Tushar Debnath with a score of 99.2%. The third position was taken by Rajarshi Adhikari of Arambagh High School, who scored a high 495 out of 500, which translated to a 99% mark.

When it comes to gender-performance, the male students excelled their female counterparts with a pass percentage of 92.03%, while the female students posted a pass percentage of 88.12%. The gender gap in pass percentages this year has led educationists and policymakers to rethink strategies to improve the performance among female candidates. However, the overall performance highlights an encouraging academic trend as thousands of students managed to clear the state’s most important school-leaving examination.

Of the districts, Hooghly has emerged a leading performer, achieving the largest number of rank holders, reflecting the area’s robust academic foundation and support system. Kolkata, the state capital, has also shown impressive academic achievement with a high pass percentage of 93.43%, ranking amongst the leading performing districts in West Bengal.

After the release, students may now download provisional mark sheets through the official site of WBCHSE at https://wbchse.wb.gov.in. Students can visit the online site and enter roll number to receive their results for provisional use on downloading and print. The Council has made sure that physical mark sheets will be made available at individual schools from May 8, 2025. Students are requested to take their mark sheets early and cross-check all the details carefully so that there is no discrepancy at the time of college admissions or other academic processes.

For students who live in rural parts of the state or have issues with internet connection, WBCHSE has made provision for an SMS-based result checking facility. Students can get their results by sending a short message in the form ‘WB12’ to 56070. This will provide assurance to all students from all parts of the state to access their examination results without any hurdles. Besides, the results will also be made available on DigiLocker, thereby increasing digital access to students.

The Council also made a declaration that students who are not happy with their marks can apply for re-valuation and scanning of their answer scripts. A certain window will be opened shortly for receiving such applications, and additional information will be put out on the website. Moreover, students who failed in one or more subjects will be provided another chance through supplementary exams. The dates and modalities of these exams will be communicated shortly by the board.

This year’s HS results mark yet another milestone in West Bengal’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education and upholding academic excellence. With stellar performances by toppers and a high overall pass percentage, the results are being seen as a testament to the resilience, hard work, and determination of students, educators, and institutions across the state. As thousands of students are about to start their journey in higher education, these outcomes provide the stepping stone for subsequent academic and professional success.
