The Bar Council of India (BCI) has released the AIBE 19 answer key officially in the examination held on December 22, 2024. This provisional answer key is now available on AIBE’s official website and can be downloaded by appearing candidates to estimate their score and assess their performance. The examination, a critical step for law graduates aspiring to practice in India, was conducted in both online and offline formats across more than 50 cities.
The AIBE exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions, and the candidates are given three hours to complete it. Every correct answer in the test carries one mark, and there is no negative marking for incorrect responses. The qualifying criteria require that candidates from the General and OBC categories must obtain at least 45%, whereas those from SC, ST, and disabled categories must obtain a minimum of 40% to qualify.
The provisional answer key will enable the candidates to arrive at an estimate of their likely scores. Moreover, those who have noticed some errors in the answer key can apply through the official portal for objections. Once the objections are scrutinized, BCI will release its final answer key before declaring the results. This way, even candidates who are not satisfied with their final score can apply for their respective results rechecking through the official website.
Passing the AIBE is mandatory for law graduates to receive the Certificate of Practice (CoP) issued by the Bar Council of India. Without this certification, legal professionals cannot represent clients in court or provide legal advice, even if they are enrolled with a State Bar Council. The eligibility criteria for the AIBE require candidates to have completed either a three-year or five-year LLB program from a BCI-recognized institution. The examination is age-barrier free, making everyone eligible for consideration as long as one fulfills the educational requirement and aspiration of an advocate.
