In the latest development on NEET PG Counselling 2024, MCC announced major modifications to the timeline for the third round. With the last date of registration further extended to January 15, 2025, candidates have come under a massive relief. It is after suspending the counseling process after completion of the second round, that MCC has again initiated the counselling process, where another chance awaits for the medical aspirants to grab a seat for the postgraduate course.
Candidates can apply for the third round through MCC’s official website, mcc.nic.in. For registration purposes, candidates need to provide their registration number, and other details, and after completion of all the processes, they can enter their choice of college and preferences. It is recommended that the confirmation page must be saved and downloaded.
Cut-off Relaxation for Candidates
As part of a parallel development, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has announced the cut-off percentile of NEET PG on January 4, 2025. The move is to fill up vacant PG seats in medical colleges. The revised cut-off includes a 15% reduction for the general category and a 10% reduction for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) categories. This change is expected to benefit a larger pool of aspirants who were previously ineligible due to higher cut-off requirements.
Eligible candidates are encouraged to register before January 15, 2025, as no further extensions will be granted. The MCC has clarified that medical colleges must upload the total number of available PG seats on the official portal by January 24, 2025, ensuring transparency in the process.
Revised Counselling Schedule
The third round of NEET PG Counselling 2024 starts from December 26, 2024, and will end on January 15, 2025. Choice filling and locking have started from January 12 and will go on until January 16, 2025. After that, the seat allotment process will take place on January 16 and 17, and the result will be declared on January 18, 2025.
Candidates selected to a seat during this round will have to report and join their respective colleges between January 18 and 25, 2025. For candidates left unallocated, mop-up counseling round has been planned. Registration for this mop-up round will start on February 3 and 5, 2025, and the choice-filling of seats will remain open till February 6, 2025. Seat allocation for mop-up round will be done on February 6 and 7, 2025; result will be declared on February 8, 2025. Students will get reporting dates within their assigned colleges in between February 8 to 15, 2025.
Supreme Court Case on Transparency in NEET PG Result:
Meanwhile, the results of NEET PG 2024, which were declared on August 23, 2024, remain in controversy. The students have alleged that the process of examination lacks transparency and criticized the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for certain practices. The Supreme Court was scheduled to take up the matter on January 8, 2025. However, it has been put off to January 21, 2025.
The controversy over the results has brought to the fore the issues of fairness and credibility in the evaluation process, with students demanding greater accountability from the authorities.
Respite for Future Doctors
These changes in the counselling schedule, combined with the relaxation in the cut-off percentile, seem to have brought hope to thousands of medical aspirants who were left at the door step of missing securing a postgraduate seat. Deadlines are extended, and rounds of counselling increase; this seems to be positive steps toward the inclusion of more candidates.
The candidates are further advised to remain updated with official announcements and be on time before the deadline closes so as not to miss this critical opportunity. Third round and mop-up counselling would enable MCC to attain maximum seat allotment with proper transparency in the process.
