In an attempt to help students and parents deal with the emotional fallout of board examination results, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) launched the second phase of its psychosocial counselling services for Class X and XII. Post-result counseling program initiated on May 13, 2025, and will last up to May 28 to provide much-needed support in facilitating students and families in coping with stress, tension, and perplexity related to further course of studies.
It is the regular tradition of CBSE to provide psychological assistance amidst and following the board examinations. Following the end of the first phase, which occurred within the exam period, the second phase has now been initiated to provide more assistance following the just-announced results. The board has coordinated a team of 65 trained volunteers comprising 51 Indians based in India and 14 international volunteers. They are the school principals, trained counsellors, psychologists, special educators, and other specialists from CBSE-associated government and private schools. Together, their objective is to mitigate the emotional tension and doubts commonly encountered by the students and parents after results.
The counselling is also being provided via a toll-free helpline, which can be reached by calling 1800-11-8004 from anywhere in the country. The number connects parents and students directly to a professional counsellor for individual telephonic sessions. Apart from real-time counselling, the helpline is also enabled with an Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS). The automated system provides centralized information and advice, including tips on handling stress, emotional well-being, and avenues after the declaration of results.
CBSE spokesperson said the move is aimed at providing a secure and congenial environment to students as well as parents. Most young learners are subjected to tremendous pressure once the results were announced, especially if their aspirations were not fulfilled or they have no idea what they will pursue in their academic or professional careers. The helpline acts as a bridge between professionals and the people who need their help, and professional mental health assistance is always within reach.
The board highlighted the service’s accessibility in its official notification. “Students and parents can access the counselling helpline by calling toll-free number 1800-11-8004 from anywhere in India. Along with tele-counselling, this toll-free number provides central assistance, useful information, and stress-coping tips regarding results through IVRS mode,” the notification states.
Besides the telephone assistance, CBSE has also increased its online reach. The board’s own counselling portal has been refreshed with the latest resources in the form of informative articles and FAQs aimed at guiding students in making informed choices regarding their next educational or career move. One can access the portal through the official CBSE website at https://www.cbse.gov.in/cbsenew/Counselling_pr.html. The official YouTube channel of the CBSE website—@cbsehq1905—also has video content developed specifically to target emotional well-being, academic advice, and motivational messages to reassure students and ease anxiety.
This counselling initiative is at the right moment, immediately following the announcement of Class X and XII board results. As per the board, the pass percentage for Class X stands at a whopping 93.66%. Class X and XII students can find out their result on CBSE’s official websites—cbse.gov.in and results.cbse.nic.in—by entering their roll number, school number, and admit card ID. The result sheet contains comprehensive subject-wise marks and the student’s overall eligibility status.
The board’s initiative has been highly commended for recognizing the psychological effect of study pressures and promoting free discussions on student mental health. By integrating conventional counselling techniques with contemporary digital resources, CBSE is establishing a trend in building an understanding and student-centric education system.
The 15-day counselling period is likely to see mass participation from students and parents nationwide. With board results usually being a make-or-break point in the Indian education system, CBSE’s move highlights the significance of mental well-being and health along with academic success.
With this programme, the board not only provides instant respite from stress but also fosters sustained sensitivity to emotional well-being. By extending a hand through open platforms, CBSE is making it easier for students to realize that it’s perfectly fine to ask for help and that success is not measured in terms of marks on a scorecard alone, but also in terms of being able to learn, grow, and move ahead with grit and conviction.
