CBSE To Hold Workshop On Vocational, Art, Physical Education

As a major move towards holistic student development as conceptualized in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has declared a day-long orientation-cum-capacity building workshop for teachers and school principals. The workshop on May 14, 2025, in New Delhi will cover the proper implementation of vocational education, art education, and physical education in affiliated schools nationwide.

The CBSE, along with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), is hosting this effort to prepare schools in line with the aims of NEP 2020. The policy focuses on experiential learning and incorporating vocational education from Grade VI level. According to the aspirations of NEP 2020, at least 50% of students should have access to vocational education by the year 2025. This bold goal highlights the need to transition from conventional rote learning approaches to more skill-based, experiential modes of learning that equip students with skills to deal with actual situations.

The workshop will be conducted at the ground floor auditorium of the CBSE Integrated Office in Sector 23, Dwarka, New Delhi. It will run from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and attendees are expected to report by 9:00 AM to fulfill pre-program formalities. The board has extended invitations to principals of all associated schools to join the event with their respective vocational, art, and physical education teachers. This joint approach emphasizes the CBSE’s intention to make school leaders and subject specialists collectively ready to implement the initiatives of the NEP successfully.

A circular issued by the CBSE highlighted that the workshop is to empower schools with the understanding and expertise necessary to introduce these three essential elements of education in a meaningful manner. The vision of the NEP is not merely to add subjects to the curriculum, but to revolutionize the learning experience to one that is interactive, inclusive, and practical. It seeks the harmonization of numerous disciplines, such as arts and sports, as integral parts in the creation of all students.

Vocational education, for instance, is a critical focus area, given its ability to equip students with employability and entrepreneurial skills, together with imagination and critical thinking. Likewise, art education is important for developing imagination, expression, and an appreciation of culture. Physical education, on its part, is important in the physical and mental development of students, as it enhances teamwork, discipline, and a good lifestyle.

The CBSE has requested all the school heads to make timely registration for the workshop. The registration deadline is 3:00 PM on May 10, 2025. Interested candidates can register through the given Google Forms link (https://forms.gle/KUn19BUajp3FaiRi7). If there is any problem accessing the link, the board has suggested copying and pasting the URL directly into the web browser.

This orientation workshop is an extension of CBSE’s broader initiatives to assist affiliated schools in adopting the reforms outlined by NEP 2020. In this period of a few years, the board has initiated numerous steps such as revising syllabus, launching new pedagogic methods, and refining assessment techniques to bring them in sync with the policy’s revolutionary agenda.

Instructors attending the workshop will benefit from acquiring deep understanding of incorporating vocational, art, and physical education into school curriculum. In sessions of experiential learning, discussions conducted by experts, and best-practice sharing, the workshop is formulated to empower school leadership as well as teachers’ capacities.

For more details or workshop-related queries, participants were requested by the CBSE to contact via email the Deputy Secretary at [email protected].

As the nation continues to forge ahead in realizing the vision of NEP 2020, such capacity-building exercises are key milestones on the path to ensuring that schools are adequately prepared to provide an education system that is student-centric, inclusive, and future-ready.
