Mumbai University Begins UG, PG Admissions 2025

Share

The University of Mumbai formally initiated the process of pre-registration for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses for the 2025-26 academic year. The admissions have been initiated for a plethora of disciplines covering arts, commerce, science, engineering, and management. Students applying to any of the colleges under the Mumbai University must register themselves online through the university portal. The most important development in this admission season is that all applicants have to provide their Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) ID—something mandated by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2023.

The ABC ID, launched by the UGC, is a special identifier to track students’ academic performance and credits in a digital format across institutions. The University of Mumbai has put this requirement into effect strictly for UG and PG programs. Candidates are required to create their ABC ID prior to pre-registration. The new system intends to provide a stronger student mobility facility, enable flexible learning, and retain a centralized academic credit record for all students.

Admissions for the 2025-26 session will be made in two different phases, depending on students’ qualifying examination timelines. For the undergraduate applicants, the pre-registration needs to be done prior to the announcement of the Class 12 results. Final registration would be permitted only after the announcement of these results. Likewise, postgraduate applicants need to complete the pre-registration prior to the declaration of their final-year undergraduate results, while final registration would be completed after the results declaration.

To start the application process, students first need to go to the official website of Academic Bank of Credit at https://www.abc.gov.in to generate their ABC ID. After the generation of this ID, the candidates can proceed to the Mumbai University admission portal at https://mu.ac.in/admission to finish the pre-registration. At the time of registration, candidates need to submit valid personal information like full name, permanent address, educational qualification, caste and category details. These details must exactly match the information on their Aadhaar card.

The applicants also need to upload a passport-sized recent photo and scanned signature, along with other documents as mentioned in the university’s admission rules. In PG admissions, the candidates have to clearly specify the particular course they are going to pursue while at the pre-registration phase. After the qualifying exam results are announced, the students will have to link their ABC ID through the Samarth portal as part of the post-registration process.

These fresh changes have been conveyed by the university in the form of a circular that was addressed to all aided and unaided affiliated colleges’ principals and directors. The circular asserts the significance of sticking to the new procedures and having a trouble-free registration procedure for students. The college heads have been asked to ensure adequate assistance to the aspirants and uphold rigorous compliance with the fresh admission protocol.

This two-phase admission system is designed to simplify the process and support students waiting for their examination results. It also demonstrates the university’s commitment to conforming to national education reforms and digitization efforts launched under the National Education Policy (NEP). By making the use of ABC IDs compulsory, Mumbai University follows other top institutions in establishing an open and integrated education system.

Throughout the process of admissions, students are encouraged to monitor the university’s website regularly for information and follow up on deadlines and document submissions. The incorporation of the ABC ID into the registration process is an important departure from the way admissions will be conducted in the future, with a greater focus on tracking digitally and academic transparency.
